Anthrax on yksi niistä bändeistä, joka nosti thrash metallin valtaisaan suosioon 80-luvulla.
Anthrax oli myös yksi ensimmäisistä bändeistä, joka yhdisti heavy metallin rappiin levyttäessään Public Enemyn kanssa hitin Bring The Noise. Yhtye muistetaan erityisesti thrashin klassikoista, kuten I Am The Law, Indians Got The Time ja Madhouse.
